The purpose of this training programme is to provide Musculoskeletal Medicine specialists with the knowledge and skills necessary to become certified in the field of Interventional Pain Management (IPM) using fluoroscopy, with a focus on the spine. The programme covers the essential concepts, principles, and techniques involved in this specialized area of healthcare. Upon completion, participants will be able to demonstrate proficiency in the safe and effective use of fluoroscopy for IPM procedures.

The training programme is approximately 12 months long and is offered at two locations in New Zealand: Auckland and Christchurch. These training sites are run by the Auckland and Christchurch faculties, respectively. Participants will have the opportunity to choose which location they would like to attend, depending on availability. Both training sites are equipped with the necessary resources and facilities to provide participants with a comprehensive and high-quality learning experience. The programme is delivered by experienced instructors who are experts in the field.

The programme is comprised of a combination of lectures, hands-on workshops, and supervised clinical experiences. The lectures will cover the relevant anatomy, pathology, procedural skills, and patient selection related to IPM. The hands-on workshops will provide participants with the opportunity to practice and develop their skills in a controlled setting. Finally, the supervised clinical experiences will give participants the chance to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world setting under the guidance of experienced practitioners.

Participants will be evaluated on their knowledge and skills through work-place based assessments. Successful completion will result in certification as a Spinal Interventional Pain Management Specialist using fluoroscopy. The programme is fully aligned with all Musculoskeletal Medicine core programme, institution, system guidelines, and policies.

Overall, this training programme is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to become competent and confident practitioners in the field of IPM using fluoroscopy. It is our hope that upon completion participants will be well-prepared to provide high-quality, evidence-based care to patients in need of these specialized procedures.
